I'm Alan Davis. I care about one thing above all else: getting it right. Not right enough to pass in a photo, but right the way the old houses are right, where every piece belongs to the same family and every size was chosen for a reason.
Somewhere along the way, finish carpentry turned into a "legoland" of sorts, with trim nailed up in whatever size the shelf had and profiles that were never meant to sit together. I went the other direction. I build within the classical orders of architecture, the same proportional system behind the buildings people have found handsome for two thousand years.
I take the periods seriously, sourcing and installing mouldings true to their era, and if a profile is not made anymore I can have a custom knife ground to reproduce it exactly. I paint and finish my own work, and I keep my schedule tight so your project gets my attention rather than a rushed crew.
Every room is proportioned to the classical orders. Nothing is eyeballed, and nothing is stacked together that does not belong.

Every project includes a hidden compartment where I sign my work with the date and a card. It is an old-world tradition. Craftsmen used to sign their work where only the owner would ever find it. Some clients keep documents or a spare key in it. Either way, it is my reminder that I stand behind what I build, literally.
